What inspired you to start your own business?
I found massage therapy very helpful for my own personal ailments, so I figured I could help others experience the same type of wellness and empower themselves through therapeutic massage.
When was the business founded?
Absolute Tranquility of the Body and Mind Inc was opened in March 2013 and we recently celebrated 10th anniversary.
What is your business slogan or motto?
Restoring you back to new.
What makes your business unique?
I have often told others and clients that because I have experienced firsthand some serious health issues, I feel I can relate to and sympathize with most of my patients’ concerns and their need for pain relief.
What product/services do you offer?
Absolute Tranquility of the Body and Mind Inc is a full service massage and facial office that specializes in therapeutic, deep tissue, medical, prenatal, reflexology, and now cupping massage! Facial services range from 30 min express, microderm, anti-aging, clear skin/teen, and men’s facials.
What inspires your work and what sets you apart from everyone else?
In both school and the working world, I have always felt a strong inclination to connect with others on a deeper level. In my line of work, that connection takes on a healing aspect. It requires a great deal for a patient to feel comfortable enough to open themselves up to someone, allowing them to understand their needs and provide the necessary care. Each patient holds a special place in my heart, and it is this deep connection that drives my desire to see everyone happy, healthy, and free from pain in their lives.
What has been your biggest success and challenge to date?
I feel blessed to be a thriving, independent women-owned business in these challenging times. However, my biggest ongoing challenge remains being a one-person operation. Nevertheless, I am optimistic about the future, as I envision successfully training others to share my passion and compassion for putting another person first, even if it’s only for an hour or 90 minutes. I believe that everyone deserves to be the center of attention and to experience the rejuvenating benefits of a massage tailored to their needs.
If you could go back to the beginning knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?
Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing about my journey. I have learned valuable lessons, received guidance, and established meaningful connections with patients and the community that have taught me so much. I am genuinely content with what my future holds.
What’s your best advice for someone who wants to start a business?
If you’re looking to start a business in any industry, you must have self-discipline, drive, determination, self-love, and the ability to have patience. These qualities will help you navigate and overcome any bumps in the road or challenges you encounter. It’s important not to give up on yourself. Remember, challenges can be likened to puzzles; it takes the right piece at the right moment for everything to fall into place.
What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
Fun fact: I’m pretty much an open book, and there isn’t much that people don’t know about me. However, something fun about me is that in high school, I played volleyball and field hockey, and I absolutely loved it. Though my love for activity hasn’t waned over the years, it has shifted towards different pursuits such as hiking, bowling, cornhole, painting, theater, world travel, and exploring new places.
What do you love the most about Sarasota? Favorite places to eat?
Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, and Bradenton have been my home for 11 years now, and there is so much to love about these towns. I adore the abundance of creative minds, love for adventure, and unique culinary experiences. Some of my favorite spots include the Asolo Theater in Sarasota, Painting with a Twist in Bradenton, Loaded Cannon in Lakewood Ranch, Robinson Preserve in Anna Maria Island (Bradenton), Premier Escape Rooms in Lakewood Ranch, Livingston Amusement in Sarasota, Ranch Nights at Waterside, Food Trucks and vendors in Lakewood Ranch, any beach on Anna Maria Island (a best-kept secret with a beach bum atmosphere) in Bradenton, Fresh Kitchen in UTC/Sarasota, Mouth Hole pork BBQ Food Truck in Lakewood Ranch/Sarasota, and CoCo Joe’s Italian Ice in Bradenton, just to name a few. I love exploring and adventuring around these cities.
If I had an extra $100,000, I would….
“What would I do with an extra $100,000?” Well, I would want to help my friends at Hungers End, a local community outreach organization located on 14th St in Bradenton. Additionally, I would love to allocate some of the funds towards building a private pool in my new house in NRR. Finally, I would seek out a permanent office building and use a portion of the money as a down payment, allowing for future business expansion with ease.
How do you define success?
I don’t measure success by the amount of money in my accounts or the growth of my business, to be honest. While I am proud of those accomplishments, true success, in my view, is measured in laughter, experiences, and the drive for future growth on a mental, emotional, and personal level. My life is filled with success because each new day brings a fresh adventure and an opportunity to continue my journey towards achieving personal fulfillment and success in life.
What’s the next step for your business?
Some things to look forward to with Absolute Tranquility of the Body and Mind Inc… Expansion is on the horizon. My next endeavor is to find and train 2-4 more therapists in my massage therapy technique, ensuring exceptional care for my clients. I aspire to grow into a permanent building and foster amazing connections with like-minded businesses. Surviving life takes a village, and I am about to expand mine as far as my mind will take me. My business today was once a dream 10 years ago, and now that dream is evolving once again. I truly couldn’t have achieved this without the unwavering support of my community, fellow business owners, clients, friends, and family. For that, I am incredibly blessed.
